024 garden rooms
To work with the redesign of the garden the new layout of the two-storey apartment connects interior spaces more directly with a transformed outdoor world, already realised and taking root. The project carefully re-orients and refurbishes both maisonette levels, creating a sequence of 'garden rooms'.
A new glazed opening at the rear connects immediately with the apartment's terrace and enlivens the knock-through reception rooms and new kitchen, swallowing the existing extension. Joinery storage islands punctuate the lower ground floor to de-clutter and to establish clear zones in an open layout, while a 'ribbon' element (basalt floor becomes inky wall finish) links the garden to the interior, wraps parts of the kitchen and hops upstairs to the upper hallway and bedrooms.
